Meanwhile, the Sport + Drama + Entertainment bundle is only $60/mth for 12 months!

What is Foxtel?

For decades Foxtel has been Australia’s top pay TV provider. The way they have remained on top can be attributed to their premium TV channels and HD sports being shown live, ad-break free. In more recent years, Foxtel has become a lot more affordable in Australia, largely due to fierce competition in the market.

Recently, the pay TV company has started offering no lock-in contract plans to give customers flexible options. Keep an eye on this page as we monitor the latest Foxtel deals to keep you informed.

Foxtel also has a streaming TV service called Foxtel Now while also providing internet and broadband, so there are many opportunities to get a Foxtel service that’s right for you while saving you money.

Is there a Foxtel free trial?

As a pay TV service, there’s no Foxtel free trial. Moreover, there are regular special Foxtel deals available for new customers who sign up for 12 months, offering access to Foxtel plans at a substantial discount.

And these Foxtel deals can be incredibly good value – for instance, the Sports HD bundle lets you catch the cricket action, as well as other sports like PGA Golf and NBA, including access to the Fox Sports Ultra HD channel. You’ll also get access to some of the best TV from home and abroad, such as the new Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

Foxtel features

There are so many great features of the Foxtel service from the Foxtel GO companion app to the revolutionary iQ5 box and to the 16,000 hours+ of TV shows it offers, it can be a lot of information at once. Thankfully, we know a few reasons why Foxtel is the service for you.

Watch over 50 sports

Watch over 50 sports

Watch the hottest sports live and on-demand when you subscribe to Foxtel’s Sports bundle. Over 50 live sports and 9 dedicated HD channels such as Fox League, Fox Footy, and ESPN. You can rest assured that every action on Fox Sports is here.

Binge-worthy dramas

Foxtel’s Sports HD bundle also includes Foxtel Plus, which gives you over 50 channels of entertainment and docos all in one place with the impressive iQ5 box. This includes Showcase, FOX8, Universal, BBC UKTV, and more.

Stream on the go with the Foxtel Go App

If you’re binging a show on Fox Showcase or streaming live sports, you don’t have to miss a key game or cliffhanger episode when you’re out and about thanks to the Foxtel Go app. Simply download the free app after you create your Foxtel ID and start streaming instantly! With this, the pay TV provider has certainly got it covered.

What to watch on Foxtel?

Foxtel has the world’s best drama and entertainment offering the world’s hottest TV shows, as well as sports. Watch all the premium TV shows HBO has to offer like Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, which you can access via Showcase. Otherwise, watch all the sports you want on Fox Sports and ESPN with the Sports HD bundle.

Meanwhile, Sky News, Discovery, Arena, Famous, TLC, and many more showcase TV shows and documentaries like no other in the Foxtel Plus base package, or if you want pure movies, there’s Movies HD for you. There’s no Foxtel free trial to access these packages for free, but 12-month bundles are discounted most of the time.

Kids channels like Cartoon Network are also available as part of the Foxtel Plus bundle. Foxtel has so much to choose from but we have summarised the best shows and movies on the pay TV provider.

How much are Foxtel plans?

Foxtel’s base pack is called Foxtel Plus at $73 per month. This package already includes over 60 channels of entertainment containing drama TV shows, reality, music, news, documentary, kids channels, and many others. Foxtel has recently simplified their entertainment packages, combining Foxtel Plus, Favourites, and Kids into a single bundle.

To add more channels other than the ones that Foxtel Plus offers, Foxtel offers several bundles, which are now offered with discounts each month for an entire year – Sports at $60/month and Movies $60/month – as part of the company’s ongoing Foxtel deals.

To get all channels (60+ of them), you can go for the Platinum Plus bundle, which includes a Netflix Standard plan for only $90/month. Since the company doesn’t operate as a streaming app like BINGE or Disney+, there’s no Foxtel free trial included, just Foxtel deals.

Another change that Foxtel is implementing this year is the inclusion of the Multiscreen feature to all plans. Previously an add-on option, Multiscreen is now part of every Foxtel entertainment package.

What Foxtel deals are available?

One of the best Foxtel deals right now, the Sports HD package comes with over 60 channels of entertainment, drama, documentaries, kids channels, and lifestyle shows exclusive to Foxtel, plus access to a dozen sports channels in HD that brings you “live” sporting action from across Australia and around the globe, including the might of Fox Sports, ESPN, and more.

New customers signing up to the Sports plan get the originally priced $103 bundle with set up costs waived completely and for only $60/month for 12 months. This is among the best Foxtel deals available right now, and if you’re into your sport it’s one of the offers that shouldn’t be missed.

For movies drama fans looking for Foxtel plans, the Movies bundle is also $60/month from its $98 original price, as well as adding 9 movie channels into your bundle. For one of the best Foxtel offers, though, head for the Sport + Movies bundle, at only $75 per month and including Sports, Movies, Favourites, and Kids channels.

If you’re the sort of person who just wants Foxtel with the lot, though, then the most comprehensive of the Foxtel deals is for you – Platinum Plus. This bundle gives you everything Foxtel has to offer along with a Netflix subscription for only $90/month for 12 months. If you prefer something basic, Foxtel Plus can be had with no upfront costs for only $73 per month (no promo applied to the basic package as of this writing).

There may not be a Foxtel free trial, but if you sign up by 30 September 2024, you can save a lot on plan fees, plus $0 set up costs for 12 month plans, which is far more than any free trial could ever save you. Fortunately, Foxtel constantly runs offers and promotions that will save you big bucks.

Does Foxtel offer no lock-in contract plans?

Foxtel used to only offer 12 and 24-contract entertainment plans and bundles. It’s all more flexible now with the no lock-in contract options, which apply to all plans and packages.

The only caveat here is that choosing a monthly plan will not qualify you for any discounts and other perks that Foxtel is currently offering, like the waived set-up costs. There isn’t a Foxtel free trial for the no lock-in contract plans either.

Foxtel launches the new iQ5

More than three years after the launch of iQ4, Foxtel releases the all-new Foxtel iQ5 box. While it is initially offered to only select customers in 2021, the new iQ5 is now widely available as it’s offered as part of Foxtel’s 12-month packages.

The main difference being that you can select its setup via satellite or your internet connection. Fundamentally, you can now watch Foxtel with the Foxtel iQ5 through your internet connection – this is similar to what you can do with the Foxtel Now box.

However, the Foxtel Now box doesn’t allow recording of sports and your favourite shows, but the Foxtel iQ5 still can! Being a plug and play iQ box, you can watch sports, movies, and your favourite shows instantly with no traditional cable or satellite installation required.

The box records two internet channels and one FTA channel at the same time while allowing you to watch a fourth. So if you can’t or don’t want to install a Foxtel satellite dish on your roof (and who would!), then the iQ5 connects through your broadband while allowing you to watch Foxtel’s 4K channels.

Foxtel alternatives

There is a range of different Foxtel packages to choose from, each with its own unique range of TV shows and movies, and even sports courtesy of Fox Sports. Foxtel Plus is the base package with over 50 channels of TV shows like FOX8, Sky News, Crime, and BBC First, to name a few.

All the other packs are additional extras that add value to your Foxtel subscription.

For new customers looking for Foxtel alternatives, the answer is Telstra. You can get exactly the same 50+ channels of entertainment and more bundles via Foxtel from Telstra. For streaming, it’s Foxtel Now.

Check out their ongoing deals below:

Foxtel Now

The closest thing to a Foxtel free trial is perhaps getting Foxtel Now, an on-demand and live TV streaming service directly from Foxtel. Much like their traditional method, customers purchase channel packs depending on the style of content they want to watch.

Originally, it was called Foxtel Play but later switched out to Foxtel Now with a massive revamp to the platform. The streaming service includes special offers and the ability to manage your packs or cancel anytime with a no lock-in contract setup, plus a 10-day free trial.

Customers can enjoy everything like entertainment, drama, comedy, news, and sports. Stream from almost any device including the Foxtel Now box which provides access to free to air channels, as well as services like Netflix and Google Cast.

Get Foxtel Now All Packswith a 10-Day FREE Trial!Watch Now

But unlike Foxtel and Foxtel from Telstra, Foxtel Now has different entertainment packs that start with its base pack, Essentials. From there, you can add premium channel packs, namely Sports, Drama Extra, Movies, and All Packs.

The good news is that the Essentials pack already includes most TV channels you’d want, such as Fox Showcase, Fox Classics, and Fox8 for the best movies and series, TLC and E! for lifestyle and reality, and Sky News and CNN for current events.

And because it’s catered to the streaming market, it offers a 10-day free trial. If you want Foxtel and Foxtel Now, have a read of our comparison page where we break it all down for you.

Kayo Sports

If you’re only after sports channels, Kayo Sports offers the same sporting events offered on Foxtel. As a dedicated sports streaming service, it’s equipped with game-changing features that’ll heighten your live and on-demand streaming of your favourite sports.

How to watch on Foxtel

While it may seem straightforward as a technician comes to install the Foxtel iQ5 box, don’t forget there are other means available to watch sports, TV shows, and movies. With an active Foxtel subscription, you can access your Foxtel channels anywhere thanks to the free Foxtel GO app.

This also applies to Foxtel from Telstra customers. This means you can re-watch Game of Thrones whenever you want or access Fox cricket when you’re in the mood for it. Have a look at the list of eligible devices to see if you can too.

What people are asking about Foxtel

What is the Difference Between Foxtel and Foxtel Now?

While Foxtel Now relies on streaming video via the internet to deliver Foxtel channels and content, the full Foxtel service remains the premium version, offering more channels, more features, higher picture quality and reliable, hassle-free delivery via satellite.

In addition, Foxtel subscribers get the advanced iQ5 set-top box, which records hundreds of hours of TV on its inbuilt hard disk (up to two recordings simultaneously). It can also receive Foxtel’s channels, including the new 4K Ultra HD channels, and stream all of Foxtel’s on-demand content.

What is Foxtel Plus?

Replacing the old Entertainment Pack, which was the base entry-level channel pack that all Foxtel subscribers got, Foxtel Plus expands that base set of channels to include many that used to be found only in optional packs. For example, Showcase – the home of HBO as well as Australian drama like The Twelve – is included in Foxtel Plus, as are FOX8, Foxtel One, Universal, British, Crime, and dozens more. All Foxtel subscribers now get Foxtel Plus as the base collection of channels.

What are the Foxtel Channels?

Foxtel’s starter bundle includes 60+ channels of drama, lifestyle, reality, docos, kids, news, and more. Meanwhile, the Sport bundle has 9 sports channels, while Movies has 9 with the likes of Movies Greats, Movies Classics, and Movies Premiere, just to name of the new.

As of 2024, all Favourites and Kids channels have now been added into the much more comprehensive Foxtel Plus bundle.

Does Foxtel Require a Broadband Connection?

While Foxtel’s channels transmit via satellite, (therefore not needing internet access for viewing) the iQ5 box uses broadband internet for a number of its key features, including streaming from a massive library of shows and movies that are available on-demand at no extra cost, as well as rental options on the Foxtel Store.

In addition, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Paramount+ on the iQ5 requires a broadband connection.

Can I Watch Foxtel on my Mobile Phone or Tablet?

Every Foxtel customer gets free access to the handy Foxtel Go app, which gives access to the full range of channels currently subscribed – both for live streaming and on-demand viewing. Foxtel Go is available for phones and tablets, while access is also free of charge via any modern computer web browser.

What Does Foxtel Installation Cost?

While generally there’s an installation charge for a technician to visit your home to install the satellite dish and cabling, Foxtel frequently waives this charge in return for agreeing to a 12-month contract – which, in turn, usually also comes with heavily discounted monthly rates for channel packs and bundles. Foxtel can waive the $199 equipment fee for the iQ5 box if you agree to a 12-month contract.

How Do I Cancel Foxtel?

If you no longer want to keep your Foxtel service and have decided to cancel, just call Foxtel on 1300 657 346 and, when prompted by the voice menu, ask for “disconnections”. If you choose to go ahead and cancel, you will need to send your iQ5 box back to Foxtel, which you can do free of charge by bringing it to any post office with the return label Foxtel sends you.

Can I Stream Foxtel to a TV Without the iQ Box?

Yes, you can use the Foxtel Go app on mobile devices to cast live Foxtel channels and on-demand content to any TV with a Chromecast attached or built-in.

You can also use the Foxtel app on recent-model (2017 onwards) smart TVs from LG and Samsung. To do so, you’ll need the Multiscreen pack added to your account; it’s free with some bundles (such as Platinum Plus) or available for $15 per month.

How Do I Change My Foxtel Channel Packs?

Foxtel allows you to add, remove or swap channel packs once per month, with the condition that any pack added must be subscribed to for at least a month before being removed or changed. To add or swap packs, head to your Foxtel account page; to remove channel packs, you’ll need to call Foxtel on 1300 657 346 (for existing customers) from 9am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Can I Add A Second iQ5 Box in Another Room?

Yes, you can add another iQ box for another room of the house, but you will have to pay an installation charge for the Foxtel satellite connection installation in that room and a monthly fee for the second iQ5 box.

An alternative is the Multiscreen pack to use Foxtel’s apps to stream your channels to your TV. Fortunately, it’s already included in every Foxtel’s TV package.

How Do I Get Foxtel’s 4K Ultra HD Channels?

If you subscribe to the Sports HD and/or Movies HD channel packs, you’ll have access to the two new 4K Ultra HD channels free of charge – Fox Sports Ultra HD for the Sports HD pack and Movies Ultra HD for the Movies HD pack.

Of course, you’ll need an iQ4 or iQ5 box and a compatible 4K TV to view these channels.

What is Foxtel iQ?

Foxtel IQ is a set-top box provided to customers that acts as a receiver for Foxtel broadcasts. The box allows you to record programs and view these later, as well as pausing and rewinding live channels.

The iQ5 is the most recent version of the IQ box, offering selected Foxtel programming, including Fox Sports, in 4k Ultra HD definition. In addition, the iQ5 provides Foxtel customers with all the features of the new Foxtel experience that are already available on the existing iQ4. The significant difference between the two is connectivity. iQ5 is a plug and play device, which means satellite installation is no longer required.

Can I get the new Foxtel iQ5 today?

The Foxtel iQ5 is now widely available as part of Foxtel’s TV bundles. To get the new iQ box included in your plan with the equipment fee waived, simply sign up for a 12-month contract.
